Bone cancer forces Wayman Tisdale to get his leg amputated

After 18 months of getting treated for cancer in his knee, Wayman Tisdale had part of his right leg amputated in order to prevent it from spreading further. In May, Tisdale had announced that he was recovering from a procedure to remove the cyst, and expected to recover 100%.

However, in the latest announcement on his website, he says ” I plan to literally “take it out” on August 25 with an operation that will be the best way to insure that it will not return. The procedure will remove the lower part of my right leg. This may sound drastic but I have put it in God’s hands and now have peace, knowing that this is the best way to put this disease in check. ”

According to His wife, Regina, the surgery was done and “everything went well.”

Wayman Lawrence Tisdale is an American former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association and now a jazz bass guitarist and a member of the Oklahoma Tourism Board.  Tisdale released his debut CD, Power Forward, in 1995. In 2002, he was awarded the Legacy Tribute Award by the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Wayman and wife Regina have 4 children.
