Togo’s football team showered with machine gun! Team backs out of Africa Cup!

Togo’s football team has backed out from the Africa Cup of Nations after their bus was ambushed by the rebel group Front for the Liberation of Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC). The group showered the team bus with bullets from their machineguns. The driver was killed and two players were shot. Shortly after the terror attack, Captain Emmanuel Adebayor, took the decision to fly the team back to Lome.
As the bus crossed into Cabinda, a disputed oil-rich Angolan territory within the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, the rebels stopped the bus and showered the whole bus with their machineguns. Front for the Liberation of Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) has proudly claimed the terror strike to be one of their deeds.
Alaixys Romao, Togo’s midfield player, said: “We’re talking to the other teams in our group to try to convince them to boycott the competition too.”
“We don’t feel that the authorities are taking this very seriously,” Togo coach Velud said. “I don’t mean that they want to hush up the matter, but almost.”
The attack has raised serious concerns for the 2010 World Cup, which was supposed to begin in South Africa in June.
Former Togo coach Otto Pfister said “This is a real blow for Africa. It will obviously be linked directly with the World Cup now.”
