Pakistan’s ICL players facing bleak future

Karachi, Jan 11 (IANS) Some of Pakistan’s Indian Cricket League (ICL) rebels can face bankruptcy if their contracts with the cash-rich league get terminated because of strained India-Pakistan relations over the Mumbai terror attack.
According to a Pakistani cricketer associated with the breakaway ICL, the players are still awaiting the payment of approximately Rs.40 million from the league. The payment which is to be shared by 20 cricketers got stuck in India after the two countries suspended sporting ties.
The Pakistani players featured in the ICL under the banner of Lahore Badshahs and won the title in the previous season of the league.
A total of 20 Pakistani cricketers were signed up by the ICL and all of them were subsequently banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The ICL players are not allowed to represent Pakistan or even play in the domestic matches. Faced with a bleak future, the players are considering seeking legal support.
The 20 ICL players banned by PCB include two former Pakistan captains — Moin Khan and Inzamam-ul-Haq besides Mohammad Yousuf, Azhar Mahmood, Taufeeq Umar, Imran Farhat, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Abdul Razzaq, Naved Latif, Humayun Farhat, Arshad Khan, Shahid Nazir, Hasan Raza, Mohammad Sami, Imran Nazir, Riaz Afridi, Shabbir Ahmed, Tahir Mughal, Shahid Yousaf and Hafiz Khalid.
