ANP chief says Musharraf will not be tried in court, may leave Pak soon

A key ruling federal coalition partner in Islamabad, ANP chief Asfandyar Wali has reportedly said that former president Pervez Musharraf was unlikely to be tried in any court of law and was expected to go out of the country soon.

“I think he will go out of the country,” the Gulf News quoted him as saying in Islamabad.

About the split in the ruling coalition, Wali said that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif’s decision to quit the ruling coalition was expected because “there was nothing common left between that party and the PPP”, after Musharraf’s removal from the political scene.

“The removal of Musharraf was the binding point between the two parties and their split was quite natural after Musharraf’s resignation. Now he is thinking of watching his interests for the next elections,” he said.

Wali made it clear that his party, which has 13 seats in the National Assembly and a majority of seats in the NWFP assembly, would support presidential candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party Asif Ali Zardari.

“Why should I not support them because they are the largest party and the people have given them the mandate in the last general elections? Also, Zardari fulfilled all his promises made to me,” said Wali. (ANI)
