Persistent Systems employee Sandeep Shelke commits suicide

Sandeep Shelke, Team Lead at Persistent Systems based at Pune reportedly committed suicide last night. [starmajha] Sandeep was an alumnus out of IIT-Bombay and completed his M.Tech. in 2007. Since then he had been working with Persistent Systems as a Team Lead. He completed his Bachelor’s from D. Y. Patil College of Engineering, Pune University.

The reason of the suicide could not be known at the time of publishing the news. Probably it was a case of depression as a friend says “Sandeep was jolly personality and was health conscious. He was a regular gym member in IIT Bombay and was seen on his favorite bike. Sandeep also suffered the state of depression and was helped a great deal by my very close friend….”

Persistent Systems is software product design and delivery company. As per their website, they have invested in structuring a gigantic team of software engineers, veterans in product development culture. They operate in industries like telecom and wireless, life sciences, analytics and data infrastructure, embedded systems domains, product engineering and Microsoft and Java platforms. Their customers range from global software companies to early-stage companies that are developing cutting-edge technology products.

UPDATED: This is being considered as Another case of suicide by an IT professional in Pune on Thursday which has brought the issue of rising stress levels in this new-age industry to the fore. [ET]
