Indian envoy hands over humanitarian relief in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Nov.20 (ANI): India’’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Alok Prasad, on Thursday, handed over a consignment of humanitarian relief assistance for distribution among civilians in the war-torn Wanni area.

The consignment was handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

It includes hygiene items, clothes and food and weighs 1680 tons. It was delivered at a function held at Kelaniya on the outskirts of Colombo.

Speaking on the occasion, Prasad said the relief materials were sent by New Delhi keeping with the India-Sri Lanka Joint Statement of October 26.

Conveying Sri Lankan Government’s gratitude to India, the Commissioner for Essential Services S.B.Divaratne said that elaborate arrangements have been made to distribute the Indian assistance to the needy in Wanni region.

Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona also attended the function. (ANI)
