Efforts on to cut-off ISI- terror group link by US : Boucher

Lahore, Jan.18 (ANI): The Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan has links with the terrorist oufits based in the country, and the US is making an allout effort to ensure  that these links are cut-off completely,   US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Richard Boucher has said.

Severing the link of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) from Pakistan-based terrorist groups ‘is a work in progress’ and the United States will make sure that it is done effectively, The Daily Times quoted Boucher, as saying.

Boucher said that it is evident that the terror groups involved in the 26/11 Mumbai attack were operating from the Pakistani soil, and his country wanted to eliminate this menace.

We want to see the groups that helped organise this (Mumbai attack) from Pakistani soil eliminated, he said.

Commenting on India’s continuous demand that Pakistan should handover the Mumbai attack masterminds to New Delhi, Boucher said:  The US expected to deal with those kinds of legal questions in the appropriate legal framework and legal process.

Both India and Pakistan should work hand in hand to probe the Mumbai issue, he added.

Each side needs to take it, needs to explore it, needs to build on it, he said.

Boucher however, refused to comment on the ‘dossier’ of evidence provided to Pakistan by India regarding the November 2008 Mumbai attacks.

It is useful information, but one shouldn’t draw too many distinctions about this information, he said. (ANI)
