Achuthanandan apologises for derogatory remarks on slain commando’s family

New Delhi, Dec.3 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has apologized to the family of slain commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan.

Under immense pressure from all the political parties and general public,Achuthanandan said I deeply regret my comments. If my comments have hurt Major Unnikrishnan’s family, I’m sorry, he added.

Cutting across party lines, all major political parties of the country had demanded anunconditional apology from Achuthanandan.

Earlier, Achuthanandan spoke before the Kerala Assembly, today, amidst immense pressure to take back his comments, he said that his comments were misinterpreted and he was quoted out of context.

He also said that he is ‘hurt and feels regret’. He lashed at the media saying that instead of giving due importance to the Mumbai attacks, they were giving more importance to this particular matter, blowing it out of proportion.

The opposition had asked the CM to issue an unconditional apology and threatened to walk out of the State Assembly if their demand was not met.

Achuthanandan had given a shocker of a reply to Unnikrishnan’’s father’’s outburst against him when he visited his house in Bangalore.

The CM had said that “If it had not been (Major) Sandeep’’s house, not even a dog would have glanced that way”. On November 30, angry scenes were witnessed at slain NSG commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’’s residence in Bangalore when the family shut its doors on the Kerala Chief Minister who went to meet them to offer his condolences.

The Left has been facing the heat, as protests mounted in Kerala demanding V S Achuthanandan ’s resignation.

For the Left, V S Achuthanandan has become a huge embarrassment. The Left finds itself in an awkward position and was forced to chastise the Chief  Minster for his loose comment.
