Clooney, Pitt host fundraising dinner in Venice for Darfur, Myanmar relief

American actors George Clooney and Brad Pitt hosted a fundraising dinner on the eve of the 65th Venice Film Festival in aid of the Not On Our Watch charity.

The charity had been set up by the two actors and their “Ocean’s Thirteen” colleagues to help disaster-hit areas of the developing world, and it has so far raised seven million dollars.

The funds will be used for victims of both the humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan and the cyclone in Myanmar.

The reason the dinner was hosted in Venice was because Clooney and Pitt, who were never free from their various commitments, were for once together at the same place.

The charity’s executive director Alex Wagner was quick to make use of the opportunity and to put it to good use.

“Scheduling is very difficult. The two of them happened to be in Venice at the same time … so there was a brainstorming session,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

At the dinner on Venice’s Giudecca Island, attended by around 200 industry insiders and Italian VIPs, Clooney was scheduled to discuss where the charity puts its money. (ANI)
